ACCELERATION OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN SECONDARY EDUCATION WITH INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY

MINESEC launches long-term strategy to digitize classrooms nationwide in order to improve equitable access of quality education.

The Ministry of Secondary Education (MINESEC) on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, took a major step forward in its digital transformation agenda with the official distribution of electronic smart boards and related equipment to secondary schools across the country.

Presiding over the ceremony at the Ministry’s Distance Learning Center, the Minister of Secondary Education, Professor Nalova Lyonga, handed over 250 smart boards and a full suite of accompanying accessories, including micro clouds, wall mounts and webcams, to school heads and their collaborators who turned out in large numbers.

Several senior officials attended the event, notably the Secretary of State in charge of Teachers’ Training, Bayaola Boniface, and the Secretary General of MINESEC, Professor Fabien Nkot, among other high-ranking personalities.

Key presentations enriched the ceremony. Alain Nono of MTN Cameroon underscored the expanding role of the Digital Student Identity Card within the national education system, noting its contribution to improved data management and institutional efficiency.

In another presentation, Wilfred Nyeanchi Bambo, Director of Technical and Vocational Secondary Education, emphasized the importance of school-based entrepreneurship as a catalyst for the professionalization of education. He provided an analytical overview of current achievements, the challenges faced, and strategic measures underway to integrate entrepreneurial training in line with both national and international education frameworks.

Taking the technical front, Tchoneng Servais, Head of the IT Unit at MINESEC, detailed the components of the digital classroom package; comprising a smart board, micro cloud, smart board wall mount, webcam, and webcam mount. Prior to this hand over, a training on the use of the equipment had been done. He also announced the development of specialized software designed to help the IT Unit track and monitor smart board usage in beneficiary schools.

In her closing remarks, Minister Nalova Lyonga highlighted the significant progress made in advancing digital education through strategic partnerships with global technology leaders such as PROMETHEAN, NetDragon, and the World Bank through the Secondary Education and Skills Development Support Project (PADESCE). She affirmed that these collaborations are instrumental in reshaping teaching and learning environments nationwide, reinforcing the government’s commitment to a modern, technology-driven education system.

The Minister further instructed all school heads to ensure diligent maintenance and effective pedagogic use of the newly distributed equipment, stressing that the smart boards must fully serve their intended educational purpose.
